You know by now that it is necessary for your business to have a presence in social media, with (at least) an account on social media’s flagship: Facebook. The first question that comes to your mind is whether to create a business fan page or a personal profile.
The correct answer is one: you need to create a corporate (business) fan page – it is also against the terms of use of Facebook to use your personal profile to represent something other than yourself (for example your company). If you use your personal profile for commercial purposes, Facebook can stop you from accessing your profile so you will miss any content you posted until then.
Another solution is to convert your personal profile to a business page, which we will analyze in detail in a blog post later on.
If you start creating your business page on Facebook now, according to the type of business, Facebook gives you the opportunity to choose between:
1. Local business or place
2. Company, organization or institution
3. Brand or product
4. Artist, band or public figure
5. Entertainment
6. Cause or community
Note: if you want to create a page to represent an organization, business, public figure or brand, you must be an official representative.
Depending on your situation, choose one of the above and continue with the next step of creating your business page on Facebook.

  • The pages can appear similar to personal profiles, but offer special tools to connect the public interested in a particular subject, such as a business, a brand, an organization or a public figure.
  • Pages can be managed by several people (admins) who have personal profiles.
  • These pages are not different Facebook accounts and do not require other logins on Facebook, beyond personal.
  • You can like a page to see its’ news in your newsfeed.
